If you have tried to subscribe to ChatGPT Plus with a Venezuelan bank card, you already know the ending: payment declined. It is not you — international processors routinely block cards issued in Venezuela. The good news: there are legitimate ways around it, and one of them is free.
Option 0: you may not need to pay at all
Before spending a dollar, be honest about your use. ChatGPT's free tier works in Venezuela without a card and covers most everyday use — questions, writing, translations, study help. Gemini, Claude, Copilot and Meta AI (inside WhatsApp) also have free tiers that work in Venezuela. If you hit the free limits only occasionally, switching between two free tools costs nothing and covers the gap.
Option 1: a USD virtual card from a fintech that accepts Venezuelans
This is the most common route. Several fintechs issue virtual Visa/Mastercard cards in USD to Venezuelan users — Zinli and Wallbit are among the best known, and new ones appear every year. You top up the card (usually via Zelle, crypto or local payment networks) and use it as a normal international card.
What to check before choosing one: that it explicitly accepts Venezuelan ID and residents, the top-up fee and monthly fees, and recent user reviews. Terms and fees change often — always verify on the provider's official site the same week you sign up, not on a months-old video.
Option 2: pay through the mobile app with gift-card balance
ChatGPT Plus can be paid as an in-app purchase on iOS and Android. That means you can fund a US Apple or Google account with gift cards (bought online with various payment methods, including from Venezuela through resellers) and subscribe from the app. Note the app-store price can be slightly higher than the web price, and your app-store account region must match the gift card's region.
Option 3: a card from family abroad
The simplest option if it is available to you: a relative in the US or elsewhere adds their card, you pay them back however you normally send money. Just make sure it is their genuine consent and their name matches the payment — using cards that are not yours to use is how accounts get flagged.
What NOT to do
- Do not buy "shared ChatGPT Plus accounts" sold on TikTok, Telegram or marketplaces: they violate OpenAI's terms, they get banned, and many are simply scams.
- Do not hand your OpenAI password to a "payment manager" — no legitimate service needs it.
- Be careful with VPN tricks that change your billing country: a mismatch between card, IP and account can freeze the subscription.
