You don't need to pay to learn artificial intelligence properly. Universities, big tech companies and foundations offer complete courses in Spanish — free and self-paced. Finding courses was never the problem: it's separating the ones worth your time from the ocean of “AI masterclasses” with limited seats and smoke-and-mirrors certificates.
Everything here was verified at the time of writing, but courses change format, language and terms without notice — always confirm on the official site before enrolling. One rule applies to this whole guide: none of these courses asks for a credit card to get started. If someone charges you for access to one of them, they're reselling something free.
Before you start: what “free” means here
In this guide, free means you can take the entire course without paying. But there are two different models worth understanding before you choose: some courses are free including the certificate, and others are free only in content — if you want the credential, you pay. Coursera, for example, lets you audit many courses at no cost but charges for the certificate.

Starting from zero, no math or code required
If you've never taken an AI course, these three are the entry point. None requires coding, and all three exist in real Spanish — not auto-generated subtitles:
- Elements of AI (elementsofai.com) — the University of Helsinki and MinnaLearn introductory course taken by hundreds of thousands of people worldwide, available in Spanish. Text-based with exercises (ideal on a slow connection), it explains what AI is and isn't, with no formulas.
- IA para todos (Coursera) — the Spanish version of Andrew Ng's course, from one of the most respected names in the field. Built for business people, not engineers: what AI can and can't do for a company. Free to audit; the certificate is paid.
- Fundamentos de inteligencia artificial (Capacítate para el Empleo, by the Carlos Slim Foundation) — made in and for Latin America, completely free with a completion certificate. The aprende.org platform also carries other free generative AI courses.
The free courses from big tech
Google, Microsoft and IBM publish free training in Spanish as part of their skills programs. The upside: the material stays current because the company building the tools maintains it. The fine print: each one naturally teaches you its own ecosystem.
- Google — the AI section of Grow with Google gathers from-scratch courses in Spanish, and Google Skills hosts the free Introduction to Generative AI learning path.
- Microsoft Learn (learn.microsoft.com) — self-paced learning paths, free and available in Spanish, including Azure AI fundamentals. The material is free; what costs money is the official certification exam, if you ever want it.
- IBM SkillsBuild (skillsbuild.org/es) — free AI courses in Spanish with verifiable digital credentials you can link on LinkedIn.
What if I need a free certificate?
At the time of writing, these options grant a certificate or credential without payment: IBM SkillsBuild (digital credentials), Capacítate para el Empleo (Carlos Slim Foundation certificates), Elements of AI (free completion certificate) and Santander Open Academy (santanderopenacademy.com), which offers free AI and ChatGPT courses in Spanish with a certificate. Terms change — verify on each official site exactly what the free tier includes before investing your hours.
A dose of honesty almost nobody gives you: a free certificate alone won't get you a job. What it does is document that you learn on your own — and combined with something you can show (a workflow you automated, content you produce with AI), it becomes a real signal. How to spot fake courses (read before paying for anything)
The AI boom created a parallel industry of junk courses, and Spanish-speaking audiences are one of its favorite targets. The warning signs repeat:
- Manufactured urgency — “last seats”, “today only”, discounts expiring in hours. The legitimate courses in this guide have no seats: they're open platforms.
- “Official” certifications that don't exist — nobody sells official OpenAI or “AI” certifications over WhatsApp, Telegram or Instagram. If the endorsement can't be verified on the site of the company supposedly issuing it, it doesn't exist.
- Resellers of free things — some people charge to “enroll you” in courses you can open directly from this page. Always enter through the official link.
- Income promises — “make $5,000 a month with AI” is not a syllabus, it's bait. A legitimate course promises learning, not riches.
How to pick one and actually finish it
The classic mistake is enrolling in five courses and finishing none. It works better in reverse: pick one based on your goal — Elements of AI to understand the field, IA para todos if you run or want to run a business, IBM SkillsBuild or Capacítate if you need a credential — and block a fixed slot of two or three hours a week. At that pace, the first one falls in weeks, not months.
And apply what you learn immediately to a real task in your week: drafting, summarizing, replying to clients. You don't need to pay for that either — here are the free AI tools that work well in Spanish. A course without practice is knowledge that evaporates within a month.

Is one of these free certificates worth anything in the job market?
On its own, not much: it signals initiative, it doesn't guarantee anything. It carries far more weight paired with something you can demonstrate — a process you improved with AI, a portfolio, results. Treat it as a starting point, not the goal.
Which one first if I only have an hour a week?
Elements of AI. It adapts best to short sessions because it's text with exercises: log in, finish a chapter, log out. A consistent weekly hour beats the intensive weekend that never comes.
